After shaping and surfing my first board (and consequently selling it in the same day I put it online), I decided to shape myself another board. I think my boards are to pro shaped boards what craft beer is to Heineken.
I got an order for a 6’0 Fish – based on my first board’s add, and so I got ahold of two 6’5 fish blanks and refined two board shapes that I’ve been staring at for a while.
For myself I shaped a 6’3 x 20.3 x 2.4 Round Tail board with loads of volume – named the Vista Cruiser. The Vista Cruiser was a kick ass Oldsmobile Station Wagon introduced in the mid 60′s.
Shape being drawn on the blank.
And for the order I shaped a 6’0 x 19 x 2.5 Fish with wings – named the Tarpon.
Wiki’s explanation of what a Tarpon is – just in case you did not know: Megalops is considered one of the great saltwater game fishes. They are prized not only because of their great size, but also because of the fight they put up and their spectacular leaping ability. They are bony fish and their meat is not desirable, so most are released after they are caught. Numerous tournaments around the year are focused on catching Tarpon.
Board is then dropped off at the glassers, fin placement, decal layout and glass layering all done to my spec.
